Drummer Yonrico Scott is best known as member of the Derek Trucks Band and his current group Royal Southern Brotherhood. His solo career boasts the albums Be In My World (2012), Quest Of The Big Drum (2014), and Only A Smile (2015). Life Of A Dreamer (2016) is his fourth album as leader.

On his new album he is joined by Ronda Scott, Diane Durrett, Nicole Lund (backing vocals), Kofi Burbridge (organ),  Joseph Patrick Moore (bass), Mace Hibbard (sax),  Kenny Banks Jr., Buzz Amato (keys), Mike Seals, Paul Nelson, Nick Johnson, Daniel Groover, Tyler Neal (guitar), Kevin Hyde (trombone), Melvin Jones (trumpet), Col. Bruce Hampton, Rev. Jeff Mosier (talking vocals).

A horn intro inspired by Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer and a voice like the late Joe Cocker. Don't Give Me has all that stuff successful dreams are made from. Yonrico combines effectively vocal elements with rock.

Gentle vibrations on the marimba lead us into Life Of A Dreamer. After the drums joined the waving rhythm unfolds a horn arrangement with a fury trombone on top. Then the drums walk through the octaves panoramically before the horns regain the theme and drive it back to the marimba.

Red Clay features Grammy winning American guitarist Paul Nelson, who is very engaged in the Blues scene among others with the blues rock band of guitarist and singer Johnny Winter. GhostRider advertises with vocal presence and burning guitar solo.

Corner Of The World comes with an easy going reggae rhythm. The dreamy melody is equally shared by guitar, organ and sax. Gypsy Moon Father Sun has some unexpected turns and twists, which guarantee suspense and show that we have to look ahead to truly phenomenal moves.

The love ballad My Life brings some vocal romance into game. With the invaluable aid of pianist Kofi Burbridge and his female choral companion Yonrico Scott climbs emotional heights. With From The Arms of Ogone (Spirit Of Iron) he creates a fascinating sound experiment and compositional cabinet piece using only the power of rhythm.

Cabbage decorates speech fragments by Col. Bruce Hampton and Rev. Jeff Mosier with guitar sounds. Brave Up dives into jazz realms with saxophonist Mace Hibbard in free improvisations. Baby Girl forms the backlight with an acoustic version in a more intimate set.

Blue Canoe Records established in 2003 by bassist/producer Joseph Patrick Moore  is one of the few labels that supports the listener to find great music outside the mainstream. Life Of A Dreamer by Yonrico Scott is a paradigm for the diversity that can thrive in this rare biotope.
