The bass is the chosen instrument of Italian musician Edoardo Nordio. Since the 80's he played in various clubs in Rome and in studio sessions as a session musician. His second passion is voice acting for numerous television series and movies. His debut album Fusion Steps was released in 2018 on AlfaMusic.

Edoardo performs on this album electric bass. He is accompanied by Giovanni Luisi (piano, keyboards), Alberto Lombardi (electric guitar, acoustic guitar),  Cristiano Micalizzi (drums),  Daniele Leucci (percussion). Guest musicians are Umberto Fiorentino (guitar) and Gianni Vancini (sax).

With the exception of three covers Edoardo has written all tracks. The album opens with Doctor Q. The guitar and bass enthusiasts among you know that Doctor Q is a well-known wah and filter device for guitarists from the 70s that was especially popular in Funk. In keeping with the title, the musicians push forward and the bass in particular comes into its own.

Amity Island is a fictional island located off the coast of New England, and is the main setting of the Jaws franchise. It is important to know that the film Jaws by Steven Spielberg initiated Edoardo's wish to become a dubbing artist. In this piece I especially noticed Umberto Fiorentino through his virtuosity on the guitar.

Fusion Steps is the aptly title for Edoardo's excellent jazz fusion creation with breathtaking contributions by pianist Luisi, guitarist Alberto Lombardi and saxophonist Gianni Vancini, whose album Get Your Groove On I recently enthusiastically reviewed.

Grover Washington Jr. has written jazz history with his Grammy awarded album Winelight (1980). Taken from this album is the tune Let It Flow. Gianni Vancini skillfully reinterprets the aura and charm of the old master. I don't know, who Nigel in person is, but the tune has a peaceful impact on me.

From man to woman, Madeleine changes after a furious intro into comfortable navigation, only to then put a jag on it again. Alberto Lombardi sets with distortion guitar new accents. For Spyro Gyra was the initiation their song Morning Dance, released in 1979. Edoardo takes up the familiar theme and approaches it with ingenious variations that are simply fun.

Blackjack is a popular casino card game, especially in Las Vegas. In any case, the musicians play as if they want to recommend themselves for this venue. In his 25th year of recording keyboardist Jeff Lorber released his album Flipside (2005). Edoardo, an avid fan of Jeff Lorber's music, has re-interpreted from this album the song Tune 88. What critics sometimes regard as smooth jazz, in the hands of these brilliant Italian musicians it receives a contemporary jazz rebirth.

If you approach Edoardo Nordio's album Fusion Steps with an open mind, you will be pleasantly surprised by the freshness and dynamics that can be found within. I can only recommend everyone to look beyond their horizon and also to take a look at European jazz in its Italian form.
