Osaka, Japan born guitarist Kay-Ta graduated at
Berklee College of Music before he became a session guitarist in Los
Angeles. He performed with great artists of the international music
scene. In the smooth jazz genre he performed with Jackiem Joyner,
Elan Trotman, Keiko Matsui and many more.
Kay-Ta is also member of the group Quatrosound
with Leah Zegar (violin), Giovanni Clayton (cello) and Jorge
Villanueva (percussion). This band joined him on the recordings and
in addition Greg Manning, Jonathan Fritzen and Nicholas Cole (keys),
Darryl Williams (bass), Maurice Ellis (acoustic bass), Steven J.
Robinson (drums), Ilya Serov (trumpet) and Jackiem Joyner (sax).
Kay-Ta first created the album as demo project to
show the audience during the fundraising process how the album would
be develop with the invested money. With the exception of two covers
he has written and arranged all songs. Apart other guitar players
his intention was to capture the feelings and not just showcasing
his skills.
Honestly I don't believe his comment. The starter
Gotta Bounce!! is such a heavyweight of showpiece brimming
with spirit and fiery culminations that he has my full admiration.
On Secret Crush Kay-Ta combines two melodic lines on the
guitar to a finely engraved sonic tracery.
Call It Even featuring Jackiem Joyner has
the stomping character that the audience has no other choice but to
go along with him and become transported by the emotion.
Admiralty Way is a street along Marina Del Rey near Venice Beach.
Kay-Ta captures
the wonderful vitality of the area with his guitar.
Insomnia Cafe is breathing culture in L.A. The
hustle and bustle of this location is reflected in a restless piece.
Synch With Me is a presentation of
emotional substance with style and spatial
complexity. Just Because sets apart with a
guitar explosion in hard rock mode. Not quite a
genre-busting pioneer but a proof of possibilities.
Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine
interpreted as a jazzy waltz respectively as a
straight ahead tune is a surprising act which
transcends genres.
Latin meets classic, Kay-Ta meets Jonathan Fritzen,
guitar meets piano on Karate Chopin. This rendition of Fredric
Chopin's Waltz op 64 No. 2 easily cross multiple
stylistic boundaries in a breathtaking tour de
force. There are instrumental songs like Sleep
Walk by Santo & Johnny Farina or Albatross
by Fleetwood Mac with a power of timeless
attraction. One For Him is a sonic approach
in this direction. Jacaranda is a
blossoming sub-tropical tree inspiring many
musicians to beautiful songs. Kay-Ta's final piece
in classic instrumentation is another flower of
acoustical aesthetic.
Some musicians strive for versatility. Kay-Ta is not
performing variety on Arrival, he is living
it.
