On September 23. This debut album by African-American singer Nica Carrington will be released. Due to the past Corona pandemic, she began to realize that tomorrow is not promised to anyone, and that it was thus time to make her voice known to the world.

Nica was born in New York and heard plenty of jazz music at home as a child. Her father worked as a promo agent, but also played various instruments. Through his record collection she discovered Chet Baker, Miles Davis and Wes Montgomery. But Frank Sinatra especially attracted her.

Nica took singing lessons, but during the lockdown she discovered Jazzvoice.com, a forum where she met John Proulx. This LA singer, pianist, composer showed her the way, bringing bassist Chuck Berghofer and drummer Joe LaBarbera on board the project.

For this debut Nica chose songs from the Great American Songbook, and brings them here in a soulful way. This collection of standards includes ‘Skylark,’ the lesser-known ‘Left Alone,’ ‘When Sunny Gets Blue,’ ‘Every Time We Say Goodbye,’ ‘We'll Be Together Again,’ ‘The Summer Knows,’ ‘You Don 't Know What Love Is', 'Angel Eyes', 'The Shadow of Your Smile' and 'Here's to Life'.

Nica knows how to bring these classics beautifully, and you wouldn't say that this is her debut. It is also a tribute to her late father. A personal statement with a contemporary edge.
