Listening
and talking to Chris gives you the first impression that he is truly a
jazz artist, soft spoken and humble, Chris believes that one has to
remember where you come from in order to know where you are going, and
in his own words he would tell you that, “there's no future without a
past”. A
native of Birmingham, Alabama, Chris had a natural affinity for music.
He began tinkering with drums at the age of six, and eventually taught
himself to play. One day while his dad was playing the organ after
church service , friends and family gathered around, Chris was moved by
the music, he slipped over to the drums and started playing along with
his dad, everyone was truly amazed at this little kid, even though it
seemed like the drum sticks were bigger than him, it was like the
service had started all over again. This
seemed to have opened the door way to the beginnings of his music career,
Chris was now the regular drummer for his church and was also hired by
many choirs through out the Birmingham area. Chris became very popular
in the church community and more surprises were in store for everyone as
he matured and seasoned. He wrote and produced a song entitled
"Lord l Try" that received air play on local gospel radio
stations for a group which he named "The Bitten's “ which
consisted of his two younger brothers. Chris
moved on to venture the world of music, and it was then that he formed
the jazz band "Xpoz'd" which received great reviews in local
newspapers and was chosen to entertain the Olympic committee which
hosted the world soccer games in Alabama. During this time he met and
recorded with jazz recording artist Eric Essix who featured Chris on a
tune entitled "Out Da Frame". Chris
wanted to explore other musical endeavors, so he opted to relocate to
Atlanta , Georgia where he began touring with several music hall of fame
legends such as The Drifters, Tams and blues man Clarence Carter .
Playing drums for Clarence presented Chris an opportunity to also be
featured as the drummer in the block buster movie " Another Day In
Paradise" which starred James Woods and Melanie Griffith. Now
that Chris had established himself as a successful musician his goal as
a recording artist was the task ahead. To achieve this he wrote ,produced
and played almost all instruments on his debut cd entitled "The
Chris Bitten Project". His
music can be best described as a cornucopia of tasteful musical
influences that combine funk ,r&b, blues, afro jive and smooth jazz.
A musical feast that is definitely satisfaction guaranteed.
