Since
relocating from Havana to Toronto in 2001, Alexis Baró has emerged as
one of Canada’s premier trumpeters. Born and raised in the mecca of
all Latin music, Alexis began playing the trumpet at a very early age.
Growing up in a musical family, he was inspired by his mother and aunt
who played with Cuba’s national ballet and symphonic orchestras.
Alexis was classically trained and holds teaching certification
from Havana’s Amadeo Roldan Music Institute. Upon
arriving in Toronto, Alexis immersed himself in the city’s eclectic
music scene by exploring other musical genres such as Jazz, R&B,
Funk and Calypso. He broadened his repertoire by working with world
renowned artists such as Evaristo Machado, Son Ache, David Rudder,
Kollage, Cassava, Ruben Vazquez, Donnie Osmond and The Clash. Alexis has toured extensively throughout Cuba, Canada and Europe, performing in world famous festivals and events. In 2004, he was honoured as a co-winner of the National Jazz Award for best acoustic artist and has just completed recording of his first full-length CD entitled "Havana Banana".
