The Garvin Dean Project

The music of Garvin Dean encompasses more than just jazz music; it is an expression of its own. It is a unique blend of contemporary gospel, jazz, and R&B. Sometimes bright and happy, other times dark and emotional, the constant in this flux of expression is the flavor.

Born in Huntsville, Alabama and raised on the campus of Oakwood College, Garvin Dean was brought up in a very musical environment.  Influenced by his father, a classical concert pianist and his mother, a tremendous singer, it was not very long until Garvin’s music talent blossomed.  Garvin attended Oakwood College for a year and then transferred to the University of Alabama in Huntsville to get his degree in Chemical Engineering. While in college, he played with several of the city’s popular bands and developed a following.  Currently, Garvin resides in Orlando, Florida.

Garvin Dean as a part of other musical acts has been invited to open for such groups as Pieces of a Dream, Yolanda Adams, John P. Kee, and Angie and Debbie Winans.

Garvin's commitment to his unique style of music is surpassed only by his desire to take his music to those who normally would not be attracted to this form of expression. It is his greatest hope, that his music will sway all genres of music lovers to appreciate the jazz form.

Smooth jazz, romantic, mood setting music. Garvin Dean is a jazz/gospel pianist, classically trained, who mixes classic jazz with the contemporary feel of the smooth jazz revolution.

His style encompasses the flavor of all the artists that influenced his playing including: Joe Sample, Russell Ferrante (Yellow Jackets), David Benoit, Dave Grusin, Four Play, and Bill Evans to name a few. This music is great for relaxing at home after a long day, or just cruising down the highway. You'll definitely enjoy his style.
