MD2

I don't know where these guys, Marc (Elbaum) and the two Daves (Henderson and March) are from - not of this earth, I sometimes think - but I know they make music that's the perfect soundtrack for my home state. If it's jazz, it's filtered through rock as timeless as the granite New Hampshire is famous for. If it's massage music, it's full body. They call it New Edge, which I like. I like that it keeps surprising me, ranging unpredictably from almost familiar to the completely unexpected. It's like watching the sun explode over the mountains and paint the lake gold, reassuring and breathtaking and full of promise. Put this on and close your eyes; and you'll see New Hampshire.

-Ernest Thompson

"Before I finished listening to the CD for the first time, I realized here was music that was fresh and daring. These guys have brains, nerves, and chops. Heartily recommended for the jazz fans or open minded in the audience."

-Bill Binkelman - "Wind & Wire", The Magazine of New Instrumental Music

Friends for many years, Marc (Elbaum) and the two Dave’s (March and Henderson) – hence the name MD2 – discussed the possibility of someday working together on a totally new project. Unfortunately, none of the three knew what that project would or even, could be. With roots in jazz and rock and roll, but with an appreciation for everything from classical to contemporary, the three decided to get together, toss out ideas, and just jam a bit. From these sessions was born MD2, a kind of "New Age" with attitude or, as they like to call it "New Edge."

From session number one, although cliché, the trio’s chemistry just worked, and in two short hours, produced "Thaw Whale," almost in its entirety. The following year was spent writing, recording and producing the other eight tracks in the group’s debut work, New Edge Old Souls .

Originally conceived as a project among three friends, the resulting album gained not only local interest, but widespread attention. On hearing the rough tracks of New Edge Old Souls, Academy Award winning author, Ernest Thompson (On Golden Pond), offered to write the liner notes and even title a few of the songs. MD2, as a group, is attracting the attention of local, regional and even national music publications. In spite of the attention and acclaim the group has received, and the sales success of New Edge Old Souls, Marc and the two Dave’s still view it as a project among friends, and are already working on a follow-up recording. Look for New Edge Old Souls on New Sheriff Records c/o 633 Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246 (603) 524-1025.

Marc Elbaum

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Marc is a third generation musician. Grandmother, Rose Kern, was a featured singer with the Zigfield Follies in the 1930’s while mother, Ruth Kern sang in both the New York Civic Opera Company and the New York American Opera Company. Marc, himself, is featured in Ripleys Believe It or Not for being the youngest pianist ever to perform at Carnegie Hall at Age 3! Marc continued to perform at Carnegie annually until Age 10. At Age 12, he switched from the piano to woodwinds. Marc attended the prestigious Berklee School of Music (Class of 1971) and has continued to perform with many New England groups including stints with Joe Droukas. Marc is featured on two of Droukas’ most recent albums, Goodbye Joe Drake and Christmas is a State of Mind as well as performing regularly and opening for such acts as Ray Charles.

Dave Henderson

A native of upstate New York where he started classical piano lessons at age 7, David relocated to New Hampshire at age 12. As a teenager he found his passion in the bass guitar, but also plays piano, synths, and a smidgen of acoustic guitar on this CD. Over the years David has had the pleasure of performing with blues man Chris Duarte, Grammy nominee Bill Morrissey, and the legendary Joe Droukas.

These days, when not in the recording studio he performs in a local rock and roll band, "the BOMBERS". For more information contact Dave about bookings.

Dave March

A California boy, Dave grew up in the Los Angeles music scene. An artist and graphic designer by education, Dave experimented with different music genres and instruments. With roots in good old rock and roll, to more eclectic tastes of 90’s New Age, Dave always believed in music – not categories. Evolving from drums and electric guitars, Dave has found his place with a fusion of traditional instruments and modern technology. New Edge Old Souls marks Dave’s debut as a recording artist.
