Born in New York on March 6, 1966, John Favicchia started playing drums at the age of 13 and became a professional by the age of 16. Self-taught at first, John developed his own style by listening to many different types of music. As his playing developed, he realized he would need help achieving the level of playing that he wanted. At the age of 16, John began studying drums with many private instructors from the New York area. When John was 18 he decided that he would become a full time musician. He began an intense practice schedule which included many hours of private drum instruction from the top teachers in the country as well as getting his A.S. degree in Jazz - Commercial music from Five Towns College. At the same time, John was a Drum Instructor at the Long Island Drum Center and doing as many gigs that he could fit in his very busy schedule. Some of the Jazz Artists that John has performed and/or recorded with include: Harvie Swartz, Steve Khan, Bob Malach, Chieli Minucci, David Mann, Jeff Haynes, Philip Halmilton, Larry Coryell, Dean Brown, Latco Deczi, Gerry Etkins, Jerry Brooks, Jay Rowe, Schuyler Deale, Tim Regusis, Bob Gallo, Tony Kadleck, Carl Fischer, Mike Frost, John Scarpulla, Matt Cardin, Kirk Lions, Steve Adelson and Billy Eric. Hailed as "one of the most musical and well-rounded drummers", Johns versatility has enabled him to appear in a variety of musical settings such as: Playing on 2 Contemporary Jazz CDs by the Billy Eric Band, playing Live NYC Radio broadcasts with the Richard Thomas Big Band playing on 2 CDs by Steve Adelson who is a Chapman Stick player, playing concerts with rock guitar players Bob Koelbler and Matt Cardin, performing at the Blue Note in New York with Steve Adelson, playing Jazz Clubs with the Bob Gallo Group , as well as touring Europe with Trumpet player Latco Deczi. In 1993 John became a member of Latco Deczis band "Jazz Celula". A two month tour throughout Europe followed. The tour took the band through Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Luxemberg, and Hungry. Some highlights of the tour were playing live on the radio in Prague as well as performing a concert for Czech TV. While in Germany John played the Burgthann Jazz Festival as well as the Famous Frankfurt "Jazz Keller". John toured Europe two more times with "Jazz Celula", once in 1995 and two months in 1996. In 1997 John recorded and released his debut CD "WORLD TIME". World Time received great reviews as well as being voted top 10 releases for 1997 by Jazziz magazine. In 1998 John put together his live band to support the CD. On February 12 th 1998 John's CD release gig was broadcast live on the Jazz radio station 88.7 WRHU FM. A few months later his band performed on a cable TV show that is broadcast to 750,000 homes in the NY area. Many gigs in the NY area were to follow. 1999 was a busy year for John. In February John recorded bass player Gerhard Graml's CD in Vienna Austria. In April John's band toured Canada and then starting work on his 2nd CD. 2000 was a very busy and creative year for John. He recorded two CD's simultaneously. His 2nd solo CD witch is featuring some of Johns best playing to date as well as featuring world class players such as Harvie Swartz, Steve Khan, Chieli Minucci, David Mann, Jeff Haynes and Philip Halmilton. He also has been recording a group lead by himself and his Partner Mario Cazeneuve. The group plays Latin/Jazz and the group and the CD are called "Pa'delante". When not on the road, John resides in the New York area where he is engaged in many creative activities: 1) Recording his 2nd CD. The songs on the CD have many different styles of Jazz: from Latin Jazz to Fusion, to Contemporary, and Traditional. 2) playing in a Latin/Jazz group called Afro Dysia 3) He plays gigs with Enee recording artist Natural Elements 4) He leads his own Fusion band as well as his own Quintet 5) John runs his own music company called FAV MUSIC for which he books Jazz acts for all kinds of situations 6) He keeps a busy schedule as a freelance artist playing with the Bob Gallo Group, Inner Voice Band, Billy Eric Band, Destiny, and Primo. In the educational field, John has been teaching in his own studio as well as South Island Music School on Long Island. He has written a drum book called the "RTC METHOD". John endorses Vater drum sticks, Attack drum heads,Colby Drum Works Snare Drums, Real Feel practice pads, as well as Zildjian cymbals.
