Carol Duboc

As a singer / songwriter, musician and arranger, Carol Duboc has assembled an impressive list of credits having worked with George Duke, Patti LaBelle, Maurice White, Joe Sample, Hubert Laws, Jeff Lorber, Stephanie Mills, Chante Moore and many others. Carol wrote "Precious", the title cut on Chante Moore’s Gold CD. George Duke produced "Precious" and Carol did the vocal arrangements. She wrote the hit single "Never Do You Wrong" for Stephanie Mills, as well as songs on Patti Labelle’s "Gems" CD which went Gold and Jade’s "Jade To The Max" CD which attained platinum status; to name a few. It is Carol’s incredible love of music and her multi-faceted talent as a vocalist, keyboard player and songwriter that embark her on this much-anticipated solo career.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Carol could not help but be influenced by hometown jazz legends Charlie Parker and Count Basie as well as jazz greats Miles Davis and Joe Henderson. Raised in a musical family--her father was a pianist and a drummer in big bands, her grandfather an opera singer and her grandmother a concert pianist, she had an appreciation for jazz and classical music at a very young age. She started playing piano at age five, learned to play saxophone and joined the Kansas City Performing Arts Company, as a featured vocalist and actress, performing as her school schedule would permit. Also as an athlete, this gifted young woman traveled around the country playing national tennis tournaments from the young age of 11. While finishing high school she joined a popular local band as a keyboard player and singer and toured the Midwest.

Moving to Los Angeles some years ago to attend U.S.C.’s school of music as a vocal performance major, Carol studied as a double major in both vocal performance and music composition, while also pursuing a minor study in music engineering. It was while attending U.S.C. that Carol’s natural soulful vocal style attracted the attention of a well- known pop / r&b producer, which was in fact the start of her recording career. She quickly began working with some of the top artists and producers in the industry, as a singer, writer, arranger and producer.
After working a year and a half with acclaimed pop / r&b producer Teddy Riley, Carol decided that pop / r&b was not enough. Inspired by her own unique jazz sensebility, her ability to write more complex melodies and harmonies, encouragement from artists Joe Sample, Hubert Laws and Kenny Burrell, she decided to expand her career as an improvisational vocalist.

For the past two years, Carol has been performing in the Los Angeles area
to rave reviews with her band. She recently recorded and produced her own urban / jazz CD with featured artists Hubert Laws, Gerald Albright, and Wayne Johnson among others.
If this project is any indication, Kansas City will soon be able to boast the talent of another
great innovative artist -- Carol Duboc!
