Lutz Deterra

Born in 1960, Lutz Deterra began piano lessons at the age of five and despite a prodigious talent realized in time that a typical classical piano career wasn‘t for him. So in 1978 Lutz turned away from a traditional music career to a more earthy life of musical employment with monthly contracts in a Disco & Soul band as well as honing his Jazz skills working with a swing combo.

Lutz had already created a successful career for himself as a professional musician including playing in Gala bands with all kinds of German pop artists when in 1982 the Technics Musical Instruments company started a long association with him as an endorser and concert artist. This interesting musical job has taken Lutz to international stages like the famous Wembley Conference Centre in London and the Kumputa Festival Hall in Kuala Lumpur.

In 1991 Lutz became a member of the ‘Matsushita Musician Team‘ in Japan creating musical software and design concepts for Technics Musical Instruments. His extensive knowledge of all kinds of musical styles has been central to his excellent accomplishments in this field. Whilst working in Japan Lutz met the famous Jazz musician Don Grusin and later performed with Don at the renowned International Convention Centre in Birmingham, England.

Lutz’s quick adaptability and his refined perfect pitch have made him a sought after session player and provided Lutz with many ‘sub’ places in Pop and Soul bands, without committing himself too much. Lutz also gained a ‘sub’ place in the demanding musical show "Starlight Express" in Bochum, Germany where he is heard frequently playing keyboards.

1997 saw the release of Lutz’s debut solo album Out of my pocket.

1999 was a hectic and exciting year for Lutz. A meeting with Michael Vandroff resulted in Lutz being made musical director of the "California Sunset Record All Star Band", which is the backing band of choice to top American acts like Nelson Rangell and Nathan East on their European concert tours. Additionally during 1999 Lutz went to Japan five times to work on the development of new Technics Musical Instruments and performed on TV shows in Germany with Marla Glen on the ARD station.

In the summer of 1999 Lutz met the American Pop & Soul star Pamela Falcon who by the end of the year had recruited him into her band. Recently they performed at the Millenium Eve open-air gig at the "Siegessäule" in Berlin together with "Tubular Bells" star Mike Oldfield.

Lutz has his own studio in his little hometown of Hattingen where he produces commercial material and enjoys composing and arranging his own music – as long as his busy schedule allows.
