NUM H.S. AMUN’TEHU

 

An Afri-Cuban-Jamaican-Trinidad-American artist, Num celebrates his culture by versatility, and his art is a reflection of his gift from the Ancestors. He has toured the world numerous times as a drummer/percussionist/vocalist. Num plays hundreds of drum and percussion instruments in styles ranging from African, Latin, Caribbean, Asian, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Funk, Rock, Reggae and Native American.

Num has shared the stage with artists such as Clark Terry, B.B.King, Najee, Roy Ayers, Tito Puente, Carlos Santana, Toots and the Maytals, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars, Mutabaruka, Aretha Franklin, The Original Wailers, Maxi Priest, Baba Maal, Dennis Brown, and the late greats Rev. James Cleveland and Donny Hathaway, and has appeared on Later with Jools Holland, on the BBC, MTV, CANAL + French Television, CBS’s late night show Vibe, and the HBO Series OZ and Planet Groove on BET in the U.S.

Num has toured for several years with reggae artist Burning Spear, who was nominated in 1997-98 for a Grammy for the album Appointment with His Majesty, on which Num played all percussion and sang background vocals.

In 1998 Num became one of Latin Percussion’s new endorsee artist/players, giving workshops, classes and seminars worldwide.

As well as writing, arranging, producing, recording and touring, Num teaches "Holistic Drumming and Meditation".
