Turning Point

  • Turning Point is an instrumental jazz group based in Phoenix Arizona. The guitar and bass duo of Thano and Demitri Sahnas formed the group to write the music they love - instrumental jazz. The Sahnas brothers were joined by John Herrera (drums & percussion) and Steven Michael Culp (keyboards) while working on other studio projects. The chemistry clicked. They compose and perform together as a band with a very simple formula - write great songs that people remember & perform them with passion.

  • The secret to Turning Point’s longevity and success is their band identity. There are few “bands” in smooth jazz today. The ones that are still on the radio have been around for decades proving that having a band identity is clearly an asset - representing strength, perseverance and commitment.

  • It took one year to write, produce, and record their self titled debut. The album was instantly embraced by Phoenix radio station 91.5 KJZZ and it seemed that overnight a demand was created for Turning Point. Since then, Turning Point has recorded four additional albums A Cool Jazzy Christmas, Together, Bridges, and their latest effort A Thousand Stories, produced by Brian Bromberg. They have sold over 45,000 copies of their first four albums through niche marketing, various retail outlets and from stage.

  • Radio continues to embrace Turning Point. KYOT 95.5 in Phoenix has and continues to play Turning Point’s music in heavy rotation. The singles "And So It Goes" and “El Greko” from their album Together received air play on smooth jazz radio across the United States. Their music is also currently in radio rotation in Canada, Europe and Latin America.

  • Turning Point’s live performances are compelling and exciting. They seem to break down the barriers between smooth jazz and rock and roll. They perform an average of twenty dates per month throughout the Southwest at jazz festivals, concert openings, clubs, and special events. Turning Point truly believes that people listen with their eyes at live performances. "It is very important to give people a show that they will go home talking about. It is not enough to just stand there and play great music. We have to put on a great show." It is that attitude that has brought Turning Point to share the stage with some of the greatest names in smooth jazz and R & B, such as: Earth Wind and Fire, The Commodores, James Brown, Boney James, Craig Chaquico, Bobby Caldwell, Earl Klugh, Gato Barbiere, Warren Hill, Rick Braun, Peter White, Richard Elliott, Brian Bromberg . . .

  • Turning Point continues to strive for excellence and innovation with the completion of their latest album, A Thousand Stories. Their collaboration with producer and legendary jazz bass guitarist Brian Bromberg has created what is considered to be a milestone in their career. The album is rich with emotion, expression, fun, radio and retail potential. The singles "Estrella" and "Athena" are already in rotation on 95.5 KYOT Phoenix and 97.1 KOAZ Tucson. Turning Point is looking forward to the many opportunities this new album will bring.
