Sam McNally

A Warner/Chappell Music song-writer since 1994, Sam was a member of the legendary ‘blue-eyed soul’ band Stylus - the only Oz act ever signed by Motown in the USA. In between touring with John Farnham and Renee Geyer in the early 80s, Sam’s first album ‘First Chance’ was recorded, featuring stunning performances by ‘Master Drummer’ David Jones, by Tommy Emmanuel, and by members of the sensational ‘Pyramid’ including David Hirschfelder. ‘First Chance’ has just been re-issued with additional new tracks, plus two cuts from other SM albums.

Since 1992, Sam has performed in and/or visited Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur numerous times, and Jakarta, Hong Kong and Tokyo once or twice each, creating momentum for himself in the regions both as a recording artist and as a record producer. In fact, the Stylus albums were released, re-mastered, in Japan in 1998, testimony to the quality of the music.

Australia’s Vorticity Music, specialising in the best of contemporary Jazz and Jazz Fusion, has agreed to work with Sam representing him alongside American greats like Dave Weckl, Billy Cobham, Kurt Elling and Vital Information.

Sam McNally has played on more albums and singles, commercials and concert tours with other artists, than he can remember. (And he has a good memory!).

Which is probably why you haven’t heard much of his own music. He has been occupied working with Stylus, Air Supply ("Lost In Love"), Stiletto, Graham Lowndes, John Farnham, Marcia Hines, Dave Dobbyn, Avion, Sharon O'Neill, Tim Finn
(Split Enz / Crowded House), Tommy Emmanuel (Australia's foremost guitarist), Girlfriend, Seals and Croft, Louie Shelton and American sax-man Dave Koz. Recently: Richard Clapton, Gina Jeffreys, Canadian artist George
Fox, award-winning song-writer Graeme Connors and Australia's "Godfather of Soul" Doug Williams.
