JDOGS

Birth of JDOGS

In August of 1997, in San Francisco, after playing together in a band with a couple other fellas for a couplde years, three of the four founding members that would become known as JDOGS.  Otto (Dave Berger), Dave Aus and Jer DeGroot bregan experimenting in jazz and acid jazz forms with other artists until we happened upon bassist Pat Ennis, who Aus had played with in a local jazz band.  Pat completed what had now become a very cool little groove jazz quarted we called JDOGS.

Gig History

JDOGS enjoyed a successfull run of club dates from early 1998 through most of 1999 before adding guitarist Rob Wullenjohn, who was referred to us by local latin jazz trumpeter, Marina Garza.  Then, while playing a date at Blake’s in Berkeley in mid 2000, a vocalist asked if he could sit in with us for a tune.  UC Buu, a popular local MC and seasoned performer, has been a member of JDOGS since that night.  What started as a cool little groove jazz quarted has blossomed into one of the most exciting and mucically competent funk/jazz outfits in the Bay Area.  JDOGS have played at Blake’s in Berkeley, Jupiter in Berkeley, Harry’s on Fillmore in San Francisco, Noe Valley Ministry, Last Day Saloon, Mick’s Lounge, Red Devil Lounge, Lost & Found and many more.

Personnel

Drummer Jeremy DeGroot lays down solid, inventive grooves.   Dave Aus’s keyboards infuses the groove with jazz lines influenced by the likes of Herbie Hancock and Joe Zawinal.  Pat Ennis on bass is always in the pocket and always brings serious jazz and  funk .. think Jaco.  Rob Wullenjohn’s guitar lends rythmic support as well as stunning solos to the JDOGS mix.  Much of the energy, texture and color in JDOGS music comes from percussionist Otto (Dave Berger).  UC Buu is the man in front of the machine.  Rapping, singing, cajoling, coaxing the crowd into the JDOGS groove.  UC Buu is mista fun, so when Buu is in the house, there's a party goin' on!
