Brian Gorrell

 

 

  

Brian Gorrell serves as Professor of Saxophone, Jazz Studies, and also directs The Jazz Arts Ensemble and small group combos at Oklahoma City University. Gorrell completed a bachelors degree in music education (with an emphasis in jazz studies) at The University of Central Oklahoma and he also received a masters of music degree in saxophone performance from Oklahoma City University. Gorrell has over sixteen years of experience performing professionally in various locations throughout the Midwest and abroad. Although Brian is equally proficient on saxophones and keyboards, he most notably served as the pianist for The Lawrence Welk Orchestra in 1994.


His debut album entitled IN SOME OTHER WORLD was released in 1995 and his second album SOULMATES was released in 1998. Brian also released a Christmas album entitled IN THE SWING OF CHRISTMAS in 2000! He runs his own recording studio Brimick Audio Productions and is active in the local recording industry.

In addition to the Welk Orchestra, he has performed on saxophone or keyboards with such notables as The Manhattan Transfer, Bobby Shew, Louie Bellson, Phil Woods, Slim Man, Samantha Siva, Jay Daversa, Larry Cansler, Chris Hicks, Bill Trujillo, Jay Migliori, The Lennon Sisters, Ralna English, Patti Page, Slide Hampton, Kay Starr, Steve Allen, Jim Nabors, MAYA, Joe Davis, Dr. Kent Kidwell, Lee Rucker and many others.


Brian is currently booking his band Brian Gorrell & Jazz Company and other Specialty Groups for all types of events ranging from small wedding receptions to large outdoor concert venues.
