Eric Essix

Eric was born in Birmingham, Al during the height of  civil rights movement. While there was always music around the house, it was only after seeing the Beatles on television that he began his love affair with the guitar.

When he was ten, Eric got his first instrument and quickly began to learn the music of Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Emuir Deodato and Herbie Hancock. He also loved rock & roll and idolized Jimi Hendrix. Jimi's music would have a huge impact on Eric.

After high school, Eric found the perfect outlet for his love of rock and jazz music in "fusion". He joined his first fusion band in 1985 called Souvenir. In 1988, he completed his debut solo CD, First Impressions and signed a deal with Nova Records.
After two records with Nova, Eric made a controversial decision to put his career on hold and go back to school. In 1990, he left for Boston to attend Berklee College of Music. The experience would change his life.

When Eric graduated from Berklee, he came out swinging with a new CD entitled Third Degree Burn, redorded entirely with his new band, Modern Man. After a year of constant touring, Eric finished out 19943 by recording Eric Essix & Modern , Live!Eric recorded two CD's for Ben Tankard's Spirit Jazz label in 1995 and composed both a documentary film score and the music for a theatrical production.

Eric's seventh, and most successful cd, "Small Talk" was released on the Zebra Records label in 1998. His new album of 2000 is called "South Bound".
