Tom Saviano

Tom Saviano is a highly regarded musician by both his peers and the music industry. But the critical acclaim, the countless recording credits and the platinum albums which hang on his wall are just stepping stones to the realization of a great potential.

Saviano is diversely gifted as producer, composer, lyricist, musical director, arranger, saxophonist, synthesist, musical composition computer programmer and keyboard player. With abundant creative abilities, he is focusing his energies on producing both proven and undiscovered talents as well as composing for film and television, and with his established peers.

In addition to writing with Warner/Chappell composer Shaun LaBelle and "Autograph's" Steve Plunkett , Saviano has composed a song with Bill Champlin on the "Chicago 21" album. With a passion for the undiscovered, Saviano has produced "Wait For Me" a song featured on the EMI/Enigma (JVC Victor, Japan) release for the recording artist, Hiroko Minato.

The son of a big band conductor and arranger, Saviano's childhood was rich with music. His appreciation for jazz, classical music and arrangements was born of a constant exposure to sophisticated musicians and music. Rising to the top began at an early age for Saviano as well. Playing every woodwind instrument except for double reeds, he majored in music through high school and college, outstanding amongst his peers as a player, writer and arranger.

Through live performances and studio work after graduation, Saviano evolved into one of the top session musicians in Los Angeles. Soon, his reputation as an exciting and innovative soloist with a unique, emotionally inspiring sound was well-established.

In 1977, while in the studio with producer Vinni Poncia, Saviano met Melissa Manchester who asked him to arrange some music for her. He did. For the next two and a half years, Saviano was Manchester's Musical Director, structuring her band and the music for her live shows. The success of her tours prompted Manchester to record a live album with Saviano in the spotlight as a featured soloist. Saviano also arranged and played on Manchester's successful "Don't Cry Out Loud", "Singin'" and "Help Is On The Way" albums.

His efforts as a full orchestral arranger and conductor on live orchestra album dates for Shirley Bassey, Roberto Carlos and Paul Anka have been equally impressive.

Longing for the opportunity to do his own project, Saviano created the group Heat. Signed by MCA, the group generated two albums receiving across-the-board critical acclaim and producing two top-40 R&B hits, "Just Like You" and "This Love That We Found". Saviano produced both albums, played sax and keyboard, wrote and co-wrote all of the material and did all of the arrangements. Working with Saviano on the Heat albums were some of Hollywood's top session musicians, including but not limited to Steve Porcaro and Lenny Castro of TOTO, Jerry Hey, Chuck Findley, Bill Reichenbach, Dick "Slyde" Hyde, Paul Jackson, Harvey Mason, Neil Stubenhaus, Ricky Lawson, Victor Feldman, Jai Winding and David Foster.

Saviano was approached to write the music for On Tv and Showtime's "Aerobicise". Within two weeks Saviano created ten high energy songs. With Saviano's music helping to make the show an instant success, "Aerobicise" was released as a video where the pre-Fonda exercise tape skyrocketed to #1.

The success of "Aerobicise" led to the nationally syndicated "20 Minute Workout", "20 Minute Workout Album" and being featured on "The Tomorrow Show" with Tom Snyder. Continuing his work in television, Saviano became the musical director for "The David Letterman Show" pilot and a featured sax soloist with Fox Television's "The Late Show".

Additionally, Saviano has contributed to Michael Nesmith's "Elephant Parts", the first video to ever win a Grammy, Dolly Parton's Grammy-winner "9 to 5" and he co-wrote "Hard To Say It's Over" for Sheena Easton's best-selling album, "Private Heaven" in 1985.

As a player Saviano has appeared on over a hundred albums with some of the hottest names in the entertainment industry such as The Boys, Barbara Streisand, Earth, Wind and Fire, Ringo Starr, Kiss, Joe Pasquale (The Boys Club), The Four Tops, and Juice Newton. He was chosen along with Randy Brecker, Peter Erskine, Paulinho DeCosta and Bobby Lyle to record an EMI /Toshiba album representing the "state of the art" in jazz musicians. In this vein he played on the Richard Perry produced "Swing" album and live and in studio with jazz musicians Harvey Mason, Joe Sample, Narada Michael Walden, Alphons Mouzon, Lee Ritenour, Wayne Henderson, Stix Hooper, David Diggs, Thom Rotella and The Savannah Band.

Creating electrifying arrangements for horns, lush string arrangements and dynamic rhythm tracks for virtually every classification of music, Saviano has moved easily from Jazz to Country to Rock to Rhythm and Blues. Requesting his talents as an arranger have been such notables as Ringo Starr, Leo Sayer, Dusty Springfield and Lynn Anderson He arranged the Glenn Campbell/Rita Coolidge pop Top 20 duet, "Something About You Baby I Like".

In addition to his working on "9 to 5", "Defiance", "Swing Shift" and "Stake Out", Saviano also has two compositions in the Warner Bros. motion picture "Impulse". Most recently, the movie "Car Pool" starring Tom Arnold with Bill Conti composing.

In the past two years Saviano has recorded three albums with long time writing partner and close friend Bill Champlin. He has toured Europe and Japan twice with Champlin and has currently completed recording a live album from the tours.

With his impressive credits as a producer and composer growing, Saviano, the performer, has released the new solo CD "MAKING UP LOST TIME" on BREAK AWAY RECORDS. It has reached #12 in Oslo Norway as of two weeks after the April of 1996 release date.

He explains, "I've been fortunate to work with some wonderful people, write some great songs and be part of some tremendous projects. But, the things I've accomplished in the music industry to date seem minuscule when I close my eyes and compare them to the things I've yet to do."
