Omar Mesa was born in Cuba and has appeared on 7 albums and CDs with the group MANDRILL on POLYGRAM records . Mandrill is a legendary afro-cuban jazz funk rock group from the seventies. He toured the U.S. , Europe, and Africa, playing major concert halls, arenas, and stadiums, including Carnegie Hall, and RFK stadium and others. Mandrill was so versatile that it played rock venues like the Fillmore east and west and then would appear with acts, like Miles Davis and Duke Ellington in the Newport Jazz Festival in New York City. Omar is listed in Rolling Stone's "Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll" along with the band. He performed along with the 90 piece symphony "Symphony of the New World" in Avery Fisher Hall in a concert that was a fusion of their music along with an orchestra. He also has appeared on numerous national and local television programs including "In Concert", "Soul Train" and on MTV in a video with L. Shankar (from John Mclaughlin and Peter Gabriel groups). In 1997 Polygram released a double CD anthology of Mandrill's music on which Omar appears. Now He is debuting his first CD entitled OMAR MESA and PARADISE CENTRAL which is his group's name. It is a blend of Pop, Jazz, Funk stylings , sometimes vocal and sometimes instrumental. Some tunes are geared for the Smooth Jazz radio market, while others cross over to the Adult Contemporary and Rhythm and Blues areas bringing with them a freshness and depth that display Omar's maturity as a songwriter, vocalist and guitarist.
