Glenn McNulty
When was the last time you listened to an album and got goosebumps?
Has a song ever surrounded you with a melody so seductive that you couldn't even breathe
until the music faded slowly away?
Have you ever stopped dead in your tracks because a melody deftly and sensuously caressed your heart, head, and soul?
Well, consider this fair warning. . .Play Raw Silk- the debut album from San Francisco's Glenn McNulty- in private, because McNulty's lush soundscapes and beatific melodies will definitely trigger your pleasure centers.
You can hear his passion in every sax line, a joyful swagger in the hot percussion that drives the songs, and a tenderness in the lovely synthesizer pads that float around the melodies. This is music for dreaming, for loving, for drifting away from your head and into your heart. This is Raw Silk.
Glenn McNulty. Keep his name handy. That's exactly what I did after being lucky enough to lay my hands on a copy of his debut CD Raw Silk. And make sure you add a copy to your collection.
Collections that will be enhanced by the addition of Raw Silk, a CD that will enlighten you to music known to millions around the world. In fact, the New Adult Contemporary/Smooth Jazz music format (NAC) is well known to the enlightened listeners of public radio in Sydney. At 2 CCR-FM (90.5) and 2 NSB-FM (91.5), NAC is regularly featured. Tune in and try a sample.
Listeners to my weekly prime time two hour syndicated radio special on 2 CCR-FM each Friday between 5pm and 7 pm will already know Raw Silk, the CD influenced by maestro Ray Obiedo. This CD is an experience. With Ray Obiedo, Nelson Braxton, Peter Horvath, Jeff Narell just to name a few, it had an inside run on success. But how does a debut artist like Glen assemble such a line up? Perhaps with unlimited funds? The production of Raw Silk certainly sounds like a big dollar effort. Or could it be his talented performance?
The superior blending of artists and artistry has been captured with Raw Silk, a works that needs to be experienced. The sheer happiness feel of "Poolside" the mellowness of "Summer Tides" and the magical blending of Glenn's sax with Steve Erquiaga's guitar commands listening.
Raw Silk is a musical journey that easily transcends the expectations of Smooth Jazz. As I listened to this fine musical work of art, corting me through the speakers, I came to realise that in our hard pressed, work obsessed age, happily there was still such a thing as flirtation. I have to be so bold to say that Raw Silk is self indulgence for those blessed with good taste
Indeed, a colleague (Victor M) who was entertaining a new lady friend at his bachelor apartment, found making conversation difficult with his sophisticated guest. So he put on his copy of Raw Silk.. Considering himself a gentleman (and gentlemen never disclose details!), his only comment to me was econversation is highly overratedi.
Raw Silk is indeed, a very fine CD.
I consider it to be one of the musical rewards of a brave new musical world.
