Gevin Arnold

I began playing guitar at the age of twelve, listening to countless Rock guitar players wiggle their fingers. After awhile I became bored with the same old thing, so I began venturing off into scary territory... Jazz!

I indulged myself by listening to records by fusion artists, which eventually led me back further, checking out Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, among others. I played in a fusion group for about five years or so, gathering up experience and lots of chords nobody seemed to like. Around this time I began learning classical composition, buying lots of records by dead composers.

After all this soul searching I've ended up where I started. Listening to music just for fun, not a bloody exercise, which brings me to the topic at hand - this CD. The recording of this project took about six months at my home studio, Mad Scientist Theatre. I am deeply grateful to my band for their help and support throughout this undertaking. The music that ended up on this disc best represents my thoughts and feelings at this point in my life. I hope you find it to be as much fun to listen to as it was to make.

Their involvement in the recording process of "One" was 100% right from the start. Adam has been in the group the longest. We've lived like 10 seconds away from each other, for God knows how many years, but we finally just met about a year and a half ago. I was playing at a jazz club, expecting the usual drummer to show up. But he couldn't make it for some reason or other, so Adam came to take his place. We hit it off really well, and I told him I was thinking of putting together a band. Fortunately for me, he thought it was a great idea and decided to join. He's an incredibly gifted drummer, and to top it off, he's only 19! The "One" thing that strikes me about Adam's playing, is his ability to play the absolute right thing at the right time. His playing is very original and it's quite apparent on the CD.

I met Morgan about 8 years ago at (don't laugh) Yamaha Rock School. That's right, a school that teaches you how to rock. Anyway, I hadn't heard from Morgan in years, but when it came time to find a replacement for the bass player that wasn't working out, I called him. This was strange, because, keep in mind, I didn't see or hear from this guy for years, but all of a sudden, I was on the phone asking him to join the band. Again I was really fortunate, because he agreed to come along. Morgan's playing is very original. He sounds like no other bass player I've ever heard, which is extremely rare. His playing on this CD is incredibly strong, original, and very spontaneous. Check out "One" and hear this very talented group of musicians.

At the top of this page, I said the band is (usually) a trio. It's never less than a trio but has been more. Sometimes we use keyboards, percussion, sax, horns, other guitarists, etc. It kinda depends on how much money we're talking about...
